Bipolar Disorder Therapy in Roswell, Alpharetta, and North Metro Atlanta

Bipolar disorder is more than mood swings. With the right support and care, stability is achievable, and many people with bipolar disorder lead healthy, productive, and fulfilling lives. We are here to help you navigate that journey.

Understanding Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder is more than just "mood swings" — it is a complex mental health condition that shifts mood, energy, and behavior beyond the typical range of human experience. These episodes can last for days, weeks, or even months, often impacting your daily functioning and relationships.

It includes episodes of very high energy (mania or hypomania) and separate episodes of depression. During manic episodes, one may feel unusually energetic, restless, confident, and may engage in impulsive or risky behaviors. During depressive episodes, one may experience persistent sadness, fatigue, hopelessness, and a loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed.

Living with bipolar symptoms is challenging. Luckily, you are not alone. There are treatments available to help you gain more stability and control over your life. With the right support and care, stability is achievable, and many people with bipolar disorder lead healthy, productive, and fulfilling lives.

Types of Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar I Disorder

Involves at least one manic episode, which may be preceded or followed by hypomanic or major depressive episodes.

Bipolar II Disorder

Involves hypomania (a less severe form of mania) and depressive episodes, but not the extreme manic episodes seen in Bipolar I.

Our Treatment Approach

We utilize evidence-based treatments to help you regain stability, including:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Identify and shift the thought patterns and behaviors that intensify mood episodes, and build practical tools for early warning signs.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness during both highs and lows.

Family-Focused Therapy & Collaboration

Involve loved ones in understanding the condition, improving communication, and building a shared plan for stability.

Psychoeducation

Learn how bipolar disorder works, how to track mood and sleep, and how to recognize and respond to episodes early.

Support Groups

Connection with others who understand the experience, reducing isolation and reinforcing coping strategies.

Mindfulness-Based Therapies

Present-moment awareness practices that support mood stability, sleep, and a calmer relationship with difficult thoughts.

Therapy for bipolar disorder works best alongside medical care. We collaborate with your prescriber or psychiatrist and can help coordinate a referral if you need one.
